Five days is enough for both Goas — if you split it correctly. A day-by-day plan that avoids the classic mistakes.
The most common Goa mistake is booking five nights in one place and then driving across the state every day. The second most common is trying to see everything. Here is the version that actually works.
Spend your first two nights in North Goa. Base yourself around Anjuna, Vagator or Assagao rather than Baga if you want good food without the noise. Do the fort at Chapora, the Wednesday market at Anjuna if your dates line up, and a long afternoon at Ashwem.
On day three, move south. The drive takes about ninety minutes, and you should do it in the morning so you arrive with the afternoon left. Palolem, Agonda and the quiet stretch around Cola are the places worth the transfer.
Days four and five are for doing almost nothing. One boat trip for dolphin spotting, one long lunch, one evening at a beach shack with fresh kingfish. That is the whole plan, and it is enough.
Two practical notes. First, rent a scooter rather than a car — parking in North Goa is genuinely difficult. Second, if you are travelling between 20 December and 5 January, book accommodation before you book anything else, because rates roughly double and availability disappears.
